I am an artist, woodworker, archaeologist and writer with each of these practices informing the other. Since studying at North Adelaide School of Art in the early nineties I have followed and developed a couple of main themes in my work. One theme has been to use multiples of single elements that builds a structure in a form of assemblage, as in my slat pieces. Another of my ongoing concerns has been to explore how the concept of landscape can be expressed in contemporary formats. As an archaeologist I have worked with Traditional Owners in Arnhem Land to record and conserve their rock art sites whilst also learning about the relationship between art, landscape and culture. I am also interested in the nexus between archaeology and art and in particular how narratives used in both parietal and contemporary art resonate with archaeological narratives.
