The Dividing Line

"These paintings and 3D images explore the simple graphic of the curved line which, with some rendering, become transitional fractures in an unknown and confusing space. In some instances the line represents a rift in an uncertain surface and in others becomes an impending atmospheric apparition. In all cases the attempt has been to render a spatial illusion that emerges from a painterly two dimensional surface" (JH).

Comment:
"For me these works evoke the feeling of zeitgeist, if not cultural chiming. The Wall has been a topic of news lately and documentaries have addressed the issue of the porous nature of this stone divide, with ‘new’ 1960’s Westerners regretting the jump from the utopian to the contemporary. Later developments seem to have eroded the promise of the dream and maybe prompted the conflict between nostalgia and an unfolding history. Either way not an easy place to be" (DWJ).
