Beach Monitor

Brighton Jetty Sculpture – January 2021

Beach Monitor statement:

Steel, paint, wire, mesh, found plastic objects.

3.6 m x 1.0 m x .7 m.

‘Beach Monitor’ is clad in discarded plastic objects that I collected on Brighton Beach during my morning walks between 2016 and 2020. The plastic pieces were mainly found along the high-tide seaweed line and drain outlets at Edward and Young Streets. The dazzling array of colour forming the scales of this creature represents the allure that plastic holds for us as consumers but highlights the environmental disaster we have produced. It's surely time to find a solution to this problem.
